The kitchen is said to be the busiest room of the house and to keep its look and feel new, it needs to be renovated more often than other rooms. Revamping one of the most used rooms and completely changing its look seems exciting. However, when remodeling the kitchen, many people hastily make decisions and commit mistakes, which they later regret later.

By skimping on important aspects while redesigning the kitchen and focusing merely on its appearance, people make many avoidable mistakes when refurbishing the kitchen. To help you avoid some basic errors that could prove to be costly, DecorEdge has put together a list of the most common mistakes people make when renovating their kitchen.

 1. Wasting space
Many are guilty of designing their kitchen in such a way that only a part of the kitchen is occupied, and a lot of space is left vacant. This looks unappealing and also creates a confined workspace. To keep this from happening, ensure to keep your kitchen spacious by using every part.

2. Misunderstanding the height of the kitchen cabinets and counters
The height of the kitchen cabinets and counters can be adjusted according to your needs. However, it’s best to follow standard guidelines and then size up or down from there. There should be sufficient space to work on the counter, and the top cabinets should be reached easily. Keep these in mind when determining the height of the kitchen cabinet and counters.

3. Oversized kitchen islands
Many think that a supersized island will be able to accommodate more things and commit the mistake of purchasing a colossal kitchen island only to regret it later. Big islands cause walking around in a kitchen restrictive leading to an uncomfortable experience. If your kitchen is huge, having two small islands is better.

4. Not planning enough storage
You can never have too much storage space in your kitchen! Incorporate roll-out drawers, tray dividers, and inserts inside your cabinets and drawers wherever you can so that storage space is maximized. Many sacrifice on storage only to regret it later.

5. Not thinking about the workflow of the kitchen
When designing your kitchen, remember that the sink, stove, and refrigerator are the busiest areas of the kitchen. To experience a smooth flow while working, ensure that these three areas are placed at equidistant from each other - not too far and not too near.

6. Picking a design which is not suitable for your lifestyle
This is one of the most common mistakes people make. To enhance the ambiance of their kitchen, they end up picking a design that is not conducive to their lifestyle. Before finalizing a design, make sure you assess your needs and requirements carefully. This will help you save time and money.
